8415 feet
17.6 miles
Today we did Mather pass, easy uphill and a bit sketchy down hill, the trail was lost under the snow. There were a few spots of rock scrambling and snow fields to cross. 12096 feet.
On the other side was the gorgeous Palisade lakes. We saw lots of marmots, they are so funny. The trail was a river most of the way down to the lakes. Wet feet, all day.
Lost boy broke a trekking pole and twisted an ankle, bad day for him.
After following the curve of the valley around Palisade Lakes we dropped down a magnificently constructed section of trail which switched back and forth down into an awe inspiring valley.
I saw a little tiny baby racer snake. There are more ferns in the greenery now, it looks like bears.
Big ants and lots of mosquitoes in camp tonight. Skunked Emily at cribbage! We did laundry and washed up in the river.
