To answer the first question I always get: No, I have not seen or read Wild and I don't plan to.
This is a personal challenge inspired by reading other accounts of the adventure while spending a year surrounded by the same scenery and walking the same one mile stretch of flag line about 300 times.
A side effect of living at the South Pole for a year is dreaming of seeing mountains again. In my case that meant deciding to walk ~2650 miles through the mountains from Canada to Mexico and then spending my free time the last few months of my winter researching and beginning to plan a thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail.

My plan is to do a slightly more complicated 'flip flop'. I'm doing the desert sections early in the spring because they are close to home and will be more enjoyable in the cooler weather. This also helps with becoming more familiar with my gear and life on the trail. I plan to fly to Washington and do a south bound thru hike with a friend starting in mid June. I would love to be able to complete the whole trip from border to border but I'm pursuing some job opportunities that would start in October so I'm just looking to make it back to the southern sections I'll hopefully have completed by June and if I have time for more, I'll walk all the way back home.
When I'm in town and have internet access I'm going to attempt to keep this page updated with majestic pictures, some trail stories, and my progress on the map but it will probably be very sporadic and minimal as there won't be much time for anything except for walking, thinking, eating and sleeping.
I owe a huge thanks to the amazing polie who helped me with a totally awesome gear list, the two polies who walked with me on my first two multi-day hikes in New Zealand, and of course my parents for walking sections with me, driving me all over Southern California, mailing resupplies and supporting me on this mind boggingly huge undertaking that will become an extraordinary journey.
