Day 48

18.7 miles, Camped at 11500 feet
Got up early to try to make a stream crossing before it swelled with more snow melt. I met a girl called v-dub and she introduced me we to her group of hikers: Special Ops, Red Beard, Pizza Beans, Nick, and Sky. We all made it to Crabtree Meadows and ate lunch together.  Emily made the difficult but smart decision to not summit Whitney and spend a day at Crabtree nursing her feet back to life while I went with the group to the summit. Nick's Achilles was  hurting so he made the same call.  I left them with my cribbage board sleeping pad and took Nick's instead so they would have something to do while they waited.  We lightened our packs and only took the bare minimum to guitar lake. Camping at gutair lake is no longer allowed under the pct permit (new rule as of March 2016) but Pizza Beans had a four person permit and since nick wasn't going I was able to join the group. We got to gutair lake and ate quickly and got to bed before sunset because we were planning to start for the summit at midnight in order to catch the summer solstice sunrise.

Tarp set up for the 3 hours of sleep I'll get tonight
